3 Things to Consider When Selecting a Pool Fence

If you’re going to have a swimming pool, you’re going to have a pool fence as well.

If you’re going to have a swimming pool, you’re going to have a pool fence as well. Like you probably went through when your pool was installed, it takes a lot of careful consideration to make the right choice aesthetically and functionally for your pool fence solution. Beyond abiding by Maryland laws regarding proper pool fencing, you are still left with plenty of options to secure your pool perimeter and your property. At this point, there are three aspects you should consider before making the final choice on your ideal pool fence.

The View

It’s understandable to want privacy in your pool fence, especially from passersby and out of courtesy to your neighbors. However, don’t be so quick to choose louvered screening to create your residential pool enclosure. You need to consider the safety benefit of not obscuring your view of the pool as much as you want to limit the view in and out of the pool area. Consider a child who gets into the pool despite being built to code and having a secure lock on the gate. You want to be sure you, or another, can quickly spot this danger and fix it before an accidental tragedy can happen.

Yard Landscape

You can choose from vinyl, metal, glass, and even wood materials to create your pool fence, but not all of these materials could be ideal depending on your yard landscape. Will your chosen fence material complement or contrast against your pool or yard design? Of course, safety is the main priority when it comes to a pool fence, but you certainly want to give visual appeal some thought too. Think about what material, like aluminum or glass panels, can work well being installed onto grass or a patio surface like concrete or stone.

Fence Maintenance

All outdoor fences must be able to withstand the weather and other elements throughout the years. But, consider how your fence will also need to resist exposure from splashing pool water. The chemicals used to keep pool water clean can be damaging to certain fences over the years, and may even show damage in a few seasons. Durable options for pool fencing that will require little maintenance, again, include aluminum fences and glass panel railing.
