Is Powder Coating Your Fence the Superior Option?

Is Powder Coating Your Fence the Superior Option?

To really protect wrought iron fencing, though, powder coating may be required, which is a coating that prevents rust and other kinds of decay.

We know it’s clear that fences have a multitude of benefits, but that leaves us with just one question: which fencing option is right for you? It’s a decision that isn’t as easy as it may seem, with different materials and bells and whistles offering different qualities. Wrought iron is one such possibility, which is a solid metal fencing material that can be decorative as well as functional. To really protect wrought iron fencing, though, powder coating may be required, which is a coating that prevents rust and other kinds of decay. Why should you think about powder coating? Let’s break it down.

Longer Lasting Durability

You’re likely familiar with paint on fences chipping away over time. This can be due to scratches and other scuffs, which can flake the paint off of the surface. Powder coating isn’t like traditional paint, though. Not only does it resist those scratches and scuffs, but it’s also bonded directly to the metal, resulting in a finish that doesn’t chip away as traditional paint may. This also means that it can flex alongside the metal in case the fence is dented. The result is a fantastic look that will last for years and years.

Pick Your Style

With so much of the focus being placed on the utility of using a powder coating, it can be easy to forget that it offers plenty of style options as well. Don’t limit yourself to the typical black or gray finishes, you see when people talk about powder coatings. There are so many more options than that. Ask whoever your supplier is if they can do custom colors, and you may be surprised to find out that you can find powder coatings in all kinds of finishes, like a typical wrought iron look, matte colors, or polished-metal looks.

Stopping Rust

Fences are exposed to whatever climate you live in, which means it’s going to rain. Rain causes rust. It’s that simple. Paint may protect your fencing from rusting, but as we’ve mentioned, it can flake or scratch, which leaves the metal exposed to the potential of rusting. Since there’s little to no scratching or flaking with powder coatings, it doesn’t leave your fence vulnerable to rust.

Security Effects

If a property looks rundown and like it isn’t cared for, this may invite intruders. With a painted fence, that might mean serious upkeep in order to reap all the security benefits that your fence could give you. Powder coatings require much less maintenance and can help serve as a reminder that your property is cared for and secured.
