The ideal way to secure a wrought iron fence is to weld the iron fence panels directly to the steel posts.

The standard wrought iron fence is installed using brackets and screws. But high-security applications might need to be further fortified. The ideal way to secure a wrought iron fence is to weld the iron fence panels directly to the steel posts. Read on to learn more!

Weld the Fence Rail Directly to the Posts

This option involves removing the bracket and screw and welding the fence rail directly to the steel posts. The iron railings usually are 1/8 inches thick. Once you get closer to the significant driveway, the fence posts that are 4 inches or 6 inches have a 7-gauge wall of thickness.

What’s even further great about this method is that the entire fence is enforced permanently. There is no tampering with the wrought iron fence unless somebody else cuts a hole through it. The disadvantage is that an experienced welder needs to complete this method unless you can do it.

Weld From the Screw to the Bracket

Another option is putting a simple tack weld from the screw to the bracket. This alternative requires minimum welding skill and less revealing metal. Furthermore, this method will connect the screw and bracket, preventing someone from installing a socket over the screw head and reversing it.

The advantage to securing a wrought iron fence is that there is no need for professional welding knowledge. You only need a small naked metal spot on both parts and a simple tack weld.

More About Tack Welding a Wrought Iron Fence

If you select the second choice, you might wonder what a tack weld is? Tack welding is when you place your welding materials together and apply short welds or tack welds that perform as joints or fixtures. These welds are set along the metals being welded together before creating the beginning and ending root pass.

Furthermore, suitable tack welding is essential because it ensures the proper alignment of the object. In addition, the welder can apply the joint gap. When your tack weld acts as a fixture, it allows the welder to minimize workplace clutter or can reinforce fixtures for extra security against misalignment. Moreover, they are effortlessly disassembled to allow for realignment if the result is an incorrect weld.
