Why Wrought Iron Fences Make Great Security Fences

A wrought iron fence is actually a great choice for a metal security fence.

The unfortunate reality of the world today is that we spend a lot of time thinking about security. We think about digital safety for our networks and computers and physical security for our homes and businesses. One of the biggest aspects of physical security is often a fence. If you’re considering a new security fence for your business or your home, you may be envisioning chain-link fences with barbed wire at the top (or common wooden privacy fences for your home). But that’s not the only option: other metals actually make great security fences for businesses or residences as well. Consider an iron fence! A wrought iron fence is actually a great choice for a metal security fence. Read on to learn more.

Sturdy, Strong Construction

Wrought iron is strong and sturdy. Other metal fences can be easily cut (like aluminum or chainlink), but iron is difficult to break without heavy duty tools. The fence is welded together so that even the weakest spots are not as weak as many other types of fences. Wrought iron can also be powder coated so that it resists the wear and tear of weather, no matter your region.

Hard To Climb

One of the very important characteristics of a security fence is that it needs to be hard to climb. If it is easy to climb, it won’t keep people out. While chainlink is a very common security fence option, it is fairly easy to climb unless it has anti-climb measures (like razor wire or plastic strips). Tall wrought iron fences are naturally hard to climb. The bars are typically spaced out so that the top one is difficult to reach and, even if you can reach it, there’s not enough leverage to swing over. Wrought iron fences also usually have finials on the tops of the posts (the pointy bits), which also discourage climbing without being as aggressive as barbed wire.

Still Visually Aesthetic

Perhaps the best thing about wrought iron security fences is that they still look nice. A chainlink fence with barbed wire would never be right for your neighborhood and may give customers a poor impression of your business. With wrought iron, you get the benefits of a security fence without lost curb appeal or poor optics. You also get to have a fence that you can see through (not possible with the typical wooden privacy fence or with chainlink that you don’t want to be climbable). You can have your security and comfort too.
