Quick Facts about Aluminum Fencing

Cleaning Tips for Aluminum Railings

Learn a few quick facts about aluminum fencing.

Once you decide that you want a fence on your property, the hard decision is choosing the material it should be made out of. A fence is a wonderful addition to almost every home because good fences have so much to offer. They provide safety and security for both your home and family while also beautifying your property. If they can do all this while also being low maintenance and not too expensive, you’ve got a great fence! Previously, if you wanted a fence that was strong and beautiful, it would also be pretty expensive, because the best option was wrought iron. Thanks to improvements in technology, you can achieve that wrought iron beauty, without the wrought iron price tag, and still, have a strong fence thanks to aluminum.

How are Aluminum Fences Made?

Aluminum is shaped into tubes which are used to create the panels, pickets, toppers, posts, and screws that make up the fence. A seasoned fence builder might recognize that it’s not wrought iron, but to most eyes, there’s no difference. You get all of the beauty of wrought iron with all the benefits of aluminum.

Aluminum is Lighter and Won’t Rust

Aluminum is far lighter than iron, so it’s much easier to work with and install. It also won’t rust. Occasionally rust does appear on aluminum (more often than not because of contamination by another metal rather than the aluminum rusting), but you can brush it right off.

Aluminum Fencing is Low Maintenance

Like any fence, you should make it a point to inspect your aluminum fence each year for damage. Aside from that, you may want to hose it off periodically to clean off the dust and debris that might build up. Other than that, your aluminum fence won’t require any maintenance, unlike wrought iron which does need maintenance.

Aluminum Provides Security

Toppers for aluminum fencing come in either a flat style or spear style, where the finial is pointed. Spear tops provide security against someone climbing the fence.

Aluminum Offers Options

While wrought iron offers more ornamental options, aluminum does come in a range of styles. In addition to the topper choice described above, you also can get your aluminum fencing in almost any color thanks to the powder coating process they use to color them. Finally, you also can still achieve the arched look with aluminum, which is especially popular on gates.
