Public Pool Fence Requirements

In the state of Maryland, a public pool fence must be at least 6 feet tall when measured on the exterior side. Is must not have any openings that make the fence easy to climb or get past. Fence pickets should also be no more than four inches apart. The barrier should not have lattice mesh or decorative pieces or cutouts larger than 1.75 inches and chain link fence mesh must be a maximum of 2.25 inches. It is also important that the pool fence properly secures the pool. The main gate must open away and be able to be locked. All other doors and windows surrounding the pool must also have locks.

Semi-Public Pool Fence Requirements  

A pool fence used to enclose a semi-public pool must be at least 5 feet high. The fence should also have a self-latching and self-closing gates.
