What is a louver and where is it useful?

Louvers

A louver can be used to keep your equipment safe and hidden from your customers.

The easiest way to describe a louver is to think of shutters: angled pieces of flat wood or metal that are placed at regular horizontal intervals to let light and air come through. At Hercules Custom Iron, louvered screen designs can be used for high security, ornamental design, gates, and enclosures.

What is a louver screen?

Louver screens are fences that can be used to enclose something that needs ventilation and offers more security and privacy than some other types of fences. Depending on the design and how close together the metal slats are, a louver screen can create almost total obscurity while still allowing for airflow. Our screens are fabricated and coated in-house, can be made of a variety of materials including aluminum and steel, and allow for total customization of the amount of visibility.

Where can I use it?

Louver screens can be used almost anywhere you want to create a barrier. Louver screens are often used to hide mechanical equipment or other items you don’t want ruining the look of your building and landscaping like air conditioning units or dumpsters. The slats allow for airflow and help create a barrier against the wind while reducing visibility up to 80%. For gates, louver screens provide privacy and security, with a modern look. In the yard, a couple of louver panels could be used to cover up garbage cans, create a barrier between the patio and the yard, section off a portion of the deck around the pool to create more shade, or create the walls for the outdoor shower at the beach. Think of using a louver screen where you want some privacy, and a metal fence might be too thin and a wall or wooden fence would block airflow.
