Cleaning Your Aluminum Railing

Keeping your aluminum railing clean doesn’t have to be a huge undertaking!

You love your aluminum railing. And for good reason! It was a terrific investment that instantly transformed your home, and continues to provide beauty and an air of stateliness to your property.

But when it comes to cleaning it, well… you have a life! It can be difficult to fit in the cleaning of your aluminum railing. And, given that they’re generally lower maintenance than other fencing products, it’s only too understandable that you might put it off for longer than you really should.

Clean it you must, however. The following are tips to keep your aluminum railing as beautiful as the day it was installed.

Quick Cleaning of Your Aluminum Railing

The most common type of cleaning your aluminum railings will require is a quick hose-down. If your rail has been coated in a little mud or debris, you should find that some water is all you need to get your railings looking like new again.

Thorough Cleaning of Your Aluminum Railing

If that mud won’t budge or the debris is hardened and sticking, you might need to use a little more muscle. Using water, a mild and non-abrasive soap, and a sponge, simply scrub off the grime. Don’t use a dry or very rough sponge, which can damage the surface of the railing and cause scratches. Afterward, rinse with water.

Cleaning Your Aluminum Railing’s Glass Panels

If your aluminum railing contains glass panels, these can be cleaned as you would clean any glass surface, such as a glass-covered table or window. Use a regular glass cleaner and avoid paper towels, which can leave streaks and lint residue.

Removing the Powdery Coating From Your Aluminum Railing

Aluminum railing is typically covered in a powder coating, which provides a beautiful and maintenance-free finish. However, this coating may become covered in a light layer of a chalky white powder as time goes by. Although this is completely natural and normal, if you don’t like the look of it, you can easily scrub off the powder and polish the railing so that it shines again.
