Do You Need Panels for Your Wrought Iron Fence?

Do You Need Panels for Your Wrought Iron Fence?

There are many personalization options available to make sure that your wrought iron fence is what you need for your yard.

When it comes time to choose the right fence for your property, it can be an overwhelming decision because of all the options out there. Of all of the fencing options available, wrought iron is easily the most timeless and elegant. And while the wrought iron is a solid, classic choice, it is not one size fits all. There are many personalization options available to make sure that your wrought iron fence is what you need for your yard.

What Styles Are Available?

There are three common styles of wrought iron fencing: Flat-top, Picket, and Pressed Point. Flat-top is also called Pool Panel and is a style where the pickets end at the crossbar on the top and bottom so that there aren’t any extruding pickets. The picket style includes pickets that are welded on to the cross bars. This style offers the most customization because you can add plugs or finials to the tops of the pickets in a variety of styles. The pressed point style comes with the pickets already pressed into flat points at the top.

How Big Should The Panels Be?

This is a question of aesthetic and necessity. Fence panels typically range from 6 feet to 10 feet wide and from 3 feet to over 10 feet tall. The panel size you need will depend largely on your fencing needs: Are you trying to keep people in or out, or simply looking to visually separate a space? Larger panels provide greater depth to the area they cover, while smaller panels have more maneuverability. Finally, think about the panels as a repeating pattern. Is your aesthetic one of a small pattern repeated many times or a large pattern repeated a few times?

How Much Will It All Cost?

The cost of your fence will be determined by several factors. The first is the cost of the basic materials.  Wrought iron does tend to be more expensive than some other materials, like wood, but you’re paying for the strength and durability that it provides. Wrought iron is also very easy to maintain, so that needs to be part of the cost consideration. While wood might be less expensive, it has to be maintained over time, and that upkeep costs time and money. Within wrought iron there are different cost levels to choose from, so you will almost certainly be able to find what you want within your budget. Remember that adding an elegantly wrought iron fence will increase your security and your curb appeal, and thus your property value.
